PREFACE
The philosophic institute for artificial Intelligence was established in 1965 by the University of Notre Dame. Its charge was to study, constructively and without polemic, the interaction between computer technology and various philosophic conceptions of the nature of man. In accord with this purpose, sponsorship was established under the Department of Philosophy, the Computing Center, and the Center for the Study of Man in Contemporary Society.
