Introduction By Ira A. Glazier and Luigi De Rosa
This volume contains papers presented at the session on « History, Models and Methods in Migration Research » at the Eighth International Economic History Congress in Budapest in 1982. Here are twenty-two essays of unquestioned relevance for the study of migration, understood not only as population movements across international boundaries but also as demographic movements within a single state. It is important to note that, although the essays devote ample space to illuminating different aspects of these movements, they do not have and, indeed, could not have a purely descriptive character, given the aims of the panel ; they deal rather with the problems of analysis and interpretation as well as suggest new methods for the study of the migratory process.
